Shanghai Express is a semi-matte burgundy red color. It's the perfect red for me (almost black hair and olive skin). I have pigmented lips, and most reds turn bright pink on me. I've had better luck with burgundy reds and brown reds, and Shanghai Express is no exception - the color stays true on my lips. However, the color is rich and dark and may not work for everyone.
Like all other NARS lipsticks I have, it's creamy and longwearing with no discernible fragrance. I give this product a 4 rather than a 5 because of the price. NARS lipsticks are worth it IMO, but I do admit that $21 for a lipstick is rather steep.
