I was reading the June issue of More Magazine and was drawn to an article about beauty lies, especially Botox. It told how most women who do get Botox do not tell their friends, families and coworkers their beauty secret. Women make up stories about why they are bruised instead of being open with the fact that they get Botox. I was surprised by that because it is a common thing women are doing these days. What do you think? Is this something that women should openly discuss with close people to them or should this remain a secret?

I dunno, I think that maybe part of it is just these women might feel a bit ashamed or think their friends will think they're vain and silly for getting it done.

I really don't think it matters if you're open about it or not, it's a matter of what you're comfortable with. I personally wouldn't get it done anyway but I doubt I'd have a problem letting people know (and honestly, it seems kinda obvious when someone has it done anyway)

Sure, why wouldnt they lie about it? People want others to think that they look great cos of diet, exercise etc... instead of cosmetic surgery. It implies more naturalness instead of aging desparation.

You took the words right out of my mouth. If people lie about little things like dying their hair or tanning, it makes perfect sense that they would go on ahead and lie about having botox. No one wants to admit that they are trying to beat the aging process ;)

I'd never get Botox, but if I did I wouldn't admit to it. I'd never want people to know I was so vain. (And like Samantha said, whether people admit to it or not, it's usually pretty easy to tell...but people think strange things for strange reasons)

Very true. It is funny that you say that because at the end of the article a doctor was discussing how great a patient of hers looked so she went on the same diet that the patient went on, bought the book for it and all. Someone in the office noticed that the doctor was on a diet and asked why - she replied that it is because the patient of hers looks so good. The employee at the office then reminded the doctor that she did lipo on the patient 6 weeks before!! LOL! It was such a great article!!

I guess it depends on whether the woman feels comfortable talking about it or not. It's still a bit of a taboo subject even though the celebs are getting botoxed openly.

Personally, I'm undecided, but some women declare openly "I'll never do it" and then change their minds later on and go and do it anyway, and don't tell anyone.

I honestly don't see why they'd hide it. Not like anybody tries hiding the fact that they wear makeup. And it's almost the same thing.

I think its still stigmatized at bit since the process looks painful (face injections) and the fact I think some women are very judgmental about anti-aging remedies. It might be a jealously thing too...like "I let myself go and am going to look down on my so-called 'vain' peers make myself feel better".

Right now I say I would never get botox, but I can't really speak for myself in 20 years.
