Hopefully something rather inexpensive because i have no idea how it will look on me! I watched the Aviator last night and now i have a craving to try red lips lol. I want more of a blue based true red, so nothing to brown or orangey. TIA!

My favorite brand for great reds is Revlon. Try Revlon’s Certainly Red Super Lustrous lipstick for a true red. Wet Wet Red Moistrous lipstick is bright red. They have a lot of other bright reds like Fire & Ice, Love That Red that you might like but I prefer Certainly Red. I think they have one Colorstay lipstick called Flame that is a bright red. L’Oréal has one called British Red-I think. Rimmel has a nice red called Scream but I think it is a tad muted(less screaming bright) compared to Certainly Red.

Apparently they used the new Max Factor lipsticks in that movie but I can’t tell which ones the actresses wore. I did check out the lipsticks but I didn’t see any bright reds.

(can you tell that I love red lipstick!?)

the best blue-based red i've found that doesn't turn orange or pink on me is l'oreal's candied apple. hate the smell though!

I have seen some nice reds from L'Oreal, can't remember their names though and this is coming from a hardcore red l/s junkie.

I just checked makeup411.com for the beauty breakdowns for The Aviator.

on Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow they used MAC Dubbonet l/s

on Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn they used MAC Viva Glam l/s

You can always swipe the color you are interested on the back of your hand and then hit the drugstore to find a look-a-like.

Oh, Jaime, I HAVE to rave about one that I'm not entirely positive is as cool-toned as you're looking for (ok -- it's warm, alright? But I had to say something, anyhow LOL http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif ) ...

You HAVE to check out Milani's Moist Matte l/s in Manhattan -- it is GORGEOUS! I picked it up after reading a couple of MUA raves for it, and I'm so happy I did!

It's a matte shade, which I prefer with reds, as they can travel quite apparently (not pretty), so it appears as more of a stain. And the formula truly IS moisturizing -- not what you'd think a matte to feel like!

Manhattan is a gorgeous shade of warm red, and I'm almost positive you could pull this one off (it's not too brown/orange IMHO, so it's more neutral, I'd say)!

You've GOTTA check it out LOL (please?) ! http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Why on earth did I read this? The only thing that's kept me from trying the moist matte is that I keep thinking it must be drying like all mattes I've tried have been. Now the next time I see them I'm gonna have to pick a couple up.

Jumping in late...

Marcelle Vintage Red is nice. Not too bright not too dark, no shimmer.

One more drugstore suggestion.

L’Oreal has a lipstick/liner pencil called Lipstick Duet in a shade called Ruby. I remember hearing that this was a great matte true red.

Well, looks like this shade is not meant to be for me either. The only store that sells the moist matte that's close to me doesnt even have a space for that shadehttp://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
