who's carrying a parasol in the summer?
I've taken to using a parasol or uv umbrella when I go outside. While I appreciate that most people try not to stare, that it is unusual for anyone who's not in a stroller. I do have some nice ones to match my outfits.

I think it can look cute, and I prolly wouldn't stare. I personally wouldn't carry one because I'd prolly lose it lol

I wouldn't, but I tend to gravitate toward things that you don't see very often. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I wouldn't stare-but I would certainly look, because I think that's pretty cool!
I would certainly look, because it is unusal in this day when everyone supposedly worships the sun baked look. But, my good sense would kick in & think how smart to protect yourself from harmful rays. Then, my fashion sense would kick in & think, "Wow! What a cool idea!"

I wouldn't look funny at someone for that. I'd carry a parasol if I had one. Where can you fine them?? I've seen women carrying umbrellas when the sun is too hot to handle.

I wouldn't.http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif My aunt carries one with her all the time in the summer (in Puerto Rico). It's kind of her signature look now.http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think that is a fantastic idea Trinigal! Having a selection of parasols to go with what you are wearing and keeping the sun off your skin to boot.
Don't worry what other people think, just carry yourself like you always carry a parasol. If you have a backyard walk around there for a few minutes everyday so you can gain a little confidence carrying your parasol.
I think it is such a classy look.
If anyone stares at you, let them. After all some might be checking you out thinking, hmmmm, great idea I need to find myself a parasol.
If anyone is staring at you b/c they think you are weird or something like that, well let them. It will be interesting to see what their skin looks like in 50 years time after all that sun exposure.
I vote for parasol carrying http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for your opinions, folks!
It's been really warm here the past few days and it's so much cooler under a parasol. That's a nice bonus in addition to the sun protection.

It is cooler under the parasol? Heh, I didn't know that... although it seems kinda obvious http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif. Out of curiosity, where did you get it from?

The difference in temperature is really noticeable when it's very sunny, kind of having your own shade with you.

I buy my parasols off Ebay, I have a few vintage ones as well as one with a special UV blocking layer. This one works particularly well, but isn't as stylish as the other ones. Isn't that always the case...

We see a lot of that around here, so it's not that wierd. And around here people use umbrellas. I don't know if that's what you meant by parasols, lol. When I hear parasols, I think of those cute little feminine parasols you see back in the old English/European days. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

it is kind of Asian custom now, I have seen some worn in Japan by older women. I think it depends where you are going.I would not wear it to work, like in the middle of business area. Not to a trendy bar also. Would also look funny to me going grosery shopping or together with the gym bag.
It is prolly fine in the park on the weekend. However, i do not think the modern clothes really match the style, sorry. Like a rucksack and sneakers and a parasol!
Sorry, you need white lase gowns to match, plus gloves, horse carriage and servants!
I would defintely look, but not agressiviely of course.

No, I wouldn't look at that person funny. I mean you do use umbrellas for shade on the beach so I don't see how this is any different. If anything, I would think that's one smart person for caring about their skin by limiting their sun exposure.
If it was a really tiny parasol or if that person was using it in the dark, then I would probably look at that person as if they were nuts.
