*I occasionally have really bad periods; I'm usually bedridden all day & throwing up. The cramps aren't really crampy like usual, but I feel pain...like a punch in the stomach. My flow gets heavier, also; I have to change my overnight pads every hour or two. I'm also tired, even though I've been in bed all day! I get weak, too http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I'm starting to think that it's because I eat acids (OJ, apples) in the morning when my cramps start. Or, it could be the fact that I started using tampons. Or, I might just have bad luck, since my mom had this when she was younger. Hers were worse, though...EVERY period she had was like that. It eventually went away, though http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Anyone else ever experienced this?

I don't think cramps are due to foods or tampons (not sure what causes it but I think genetics has to do with it?). I used to have pretty heavy flow and cramps (9 days long periods, changing super sized tampon/pad every 4 hrs) until I went on BCP (now it lasts from 2-5 days max, and is much lighter, changing tampon every 8-10 hrs). Try going to your doctor to see if this is an option - you don't have to suffer with heavy flow & cramps.

I don't think this is due to foods or tampons, either. I used to have heavy (leaking through a super tampon every hour), painful, 10 day long, irregular periods. I went on birth control pills and haven't had a problem since. I have cramps every now and then, but only about every 4-5 months rather than with every period, and they aren't usually as bad as they were before I went on the pill.

YES!!!! Oh GOD do I hate my periods! It was worse when I first started (age 13?) but has since then subsided. I think it is hereditary too because my mom used to have bad cramps.

My doctor advised me to take Aleve (naproxen sodium) at the first signs that I will be bleeding. Then I have to take it morning and night to prevent the painful cramps. It is only really painful the first 48 hours so I only take it then. I have been doing that successfully since those teen years and it works well. It seems like if I stop the painful cramps before it starts then the nausea and fatigue doesn’t seem to affect me so badly.

You may want to talk to your doctor about that.

I have a friend who gets bad cramps and used t throw up every single month. It got to the point where she was missing school. Her doctor told her to take tylenol (she's allergic to ibuprofen) every 3 hours, and she hasn't thrown up in months. Feel better! Periods are the worst

I feel your pain!! I ended up going to the gyno because I was missing school every month for my period, and I just couldn't afford to keep missing school!! My gyno put me on BC, and it made my flow lighter, my period shorter, and my cramps are not AS bad (though I do still have them!!). I've been on BC for almost 5 years now, and I definitely could not do without it!!

Exercise on a regular basis, it helps a lot. Sometimes I get lazy and stop working out and then when my period rolls around, I get killer cramps.

My advise is to take a hot bath and then sleep. Your doctor probably is recommending Aleve because if I am not mistaken, it thins out your blood thus making your period lighter.

*Thanks, girls. My doctor recommended Aleve a while back, and it worked, but I stopped taking it because I HATE taking medication (see Rayray's phobia post). I feel that I'll become dependent on it, and then one day I'll forget it or run out of it, and then my cramps will be so bad that I'll die or something (wierd, I know). Walking & ab stretches always did help, so next time I'll try those. Again, thanks all!

I noticed when I excercised, my cramps aren't that bad. Unfortuntely I started my period yesterday, and I start school tomorrow http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. I noticed too, whenever school is about to start, I get my period. This happened every semester I started school, I guess because I stress alot about it. Even though I exercised last week, my stomach still hurted, but not as much as it usually does. Lol, sad that I woke up at 12:30 today, and I'm still sleepy. Get well though.
