Hi http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am looking to buy a couple of fitness videos and I would like to ask for your recommendation.

Can you give me a couple of fun and effective videos that you have?

Thanks http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My absolute favourite fitness video isn't actually a video. It's kind of like "video game". It's called "Yourself!Fitness" and it's available on PS2, XBOX, and PC. When you first set up an account, your personal trainer Maya will test you to see your physical fitness. She'll ask for your resting heart rate, then your elevated heart rate, # of squats, crunches, pushups, and how flexible you are. From these, Maya will recommend which fitness area you need to improve. She also charts your progress with frequent physical evaluation.

You also have a schedule you can set up. BTW, she knows when you miss a workout. I missed three days in a row and she kind of punished me for that with a really intense workout. As for the workout itself, you have a choice of 15, 30, 45, 60 minute workout, a choice of music and scenary (more will unlock once you're a consistent user of Y!F), and you can pick what exercise equipment you have. There's only four option so far: heart rate monitor, stability ball, step bench, and dumbells. Maya usually recommends a different workout each time but you can override her and pick whatever you want. Either Weight Loss, Cardio, Upper body strength, Core body strength, lower body strength, and Flexbility. What I really like about this is that every workout is different. All the exercise is randomly picked which is what I prefer because I tend to get bored after a while.

At the start of the workout, Maya asks you how you're feeling and adjusts the difficulty depending on your answer (actually, she also does this during your workout too). On the screen, you'll see a ticker at the bottom displaying what exercises are coming up next, difficulty of workout, and the time left. If at all you are confused on how to do one move, Maya's tutorial will explain to you how it's done until you get it right. At the end of the workout, she'll give the total amount of calories burned. I don't know how accurate it is, but it always gives me a sense of accomplishment http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

There is also a feature to Y!F called the Meditation Garden. As you can guess, it's a bunch of yoga moves for relaxation. I haven't tried the whole workout yet, I kind of gave up because my looong hair was getting in my way. Oooh, and another feature is the meal planner. You can pick how many calories you want in a day and they'll give you a bunch of meal plans. You can also download it right here (http://www.yourselffitness.com/commitment/eat-right.aspx).

In Canada, the only places I can get it from are EB Games, and Best Buy. I'm sure it's more readily available in the USA.

Anyway, beside Yourself!Fitness. I also love Winsor Pilates. I'm not entirely fond of the basic set (I find it too easy http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif) but her later releases are more of a challenge. As well, I heard Cathe is extremely good too. Her cueing is excellent and her workout is INTENSE! I don't even think I can last those workout, at least not yet. If you goto cathe.com (http://www.cathe.com) or collagevideo.com (http://www.collagevideo.com), you can check out some of her video clips. I also hear that Rodney Yee is one of the better yoga instructors out there. Never tried him yet even though I have one of his tapes http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif. I also have some Denise Richards DVDs but I'm not entirely fond of them (don't shoot me Dani *hides*). I find her cueing pretty darn off and I don't like most of the workout crew behind her. I shouldn't let it bother me but it does. Actually, it's mostly this one girl. I took martial arts for at least 5 years and seeing that one girl punch just got me all riled up.

I don't know if you know this site, but Video Fitness (http://www.videofitness.com) is very resourceful http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you can get over how very 80's THE FIRM is you will see big results in just a few weeks.

Yes, The Firm has great videos, if you get the older ones. I just do not care for the new ones, they're not that great in my opinion. Definitely check into the older ones. You'll have to order them though online or maybe from Barnes & Noble bookstore. Good luck! http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
