I went to the dermatologist today for a mole check, and my doctor decided to removed two suspicious moles and perform biopsies on them. Since I'm fair and freckled, not to mention have a family history of melanoma, we figured it was much better to be safe than sorry.
I'm not incredibly worried, but I figured that this (plus summer just around the corner) would be a good time to get on my soap box and say "For the love of God, wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun!" http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif (and wear sunglasses)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
My sister-in-law was diagnosed with two malignant melanomas last year, and she just got two more suspicious moles removed at the derm's office last week. She has to go for a checkup every six months now.
I had a suspicious mole removed as well(not malignant)- it's a lot less fun than wearing sunscreen, hat and sunglasses.

I had a mole removed last year.. and now I have a scar the size of the palm of my hand because I had some allergic reaction to Neosporin. Or maybe it was the fact that there were bandaids on that spot for 3 weeks. Good luck!
