I finished my round of Accutane about 2 weeks ago. I was on it for 6 months. It was great. No oil at all. I didn't get any of the terrible side effects along with the medication, and my blood tests were all fine.
In the past 2 days my skin has started to go back to it's usual ways. The oil came back today, full blown. It was disgusting and it felt so uncomfortable. I just looked at my skin in the bathroom and I could see those little 'oil pockets' and clogged pores starting to form. Even with the Retin-A topical. I need something stronger, that takes care of it from the inside.
I called my mom earlier today and asked her to make another derm. appt ASAP. I may do another round of Accutane. I hope so. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I know it sounds silly but the condition of my skin dictates my job, my life, my relationships, etc. So I'm very worried right now. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

oh rayray...i know how you feel!! ever since i got back from my trip in late january i've had these unexplained breakout on my forehead....and even though it's calmed down a bit it's still here....i've tried many things to get rid of it but it's very persistant...i've been feeling down lately because of this cause i'm starting to feel like this will never go away...it's soo weird b4 i only had an occasional pimple here and there....
i think i might have to go make an appt with the derm too...i want to ask you rayray for your retin A and accutane do you know how much it would be if your insurance doesn't cover it...it's summer time now so i'm not sure if my insurance will cover me since i'm not considered a student at the moment....thanks

Aww Rachel, sorry to hear that. Your skin has looked great in the pictures you've posted lately. I know I've heard from several people it took them more than one course of Accutane before it truly worked. It's good you're going back into the derm. asap. Let us know how it goes.

I'm sorry! The same thing happened to me kinda, I was ok for a few weeks, then I got a little oily and I break out from time to time. From what I know, the derm will only put you back on accutane if you are breaking out badly, and even then, they make you wait a few months before they will consider letting you do it again. I hope your skin gets better soon!

that sucks. i'm with you when you say your skin affects the rest of your life - sorry your frustrated right now. until you can get another rx, maybe try to control the oil with those blotting papers? i've also heard milk of magnesia is good (never tried it though). i only used retin-a for a while, and it didn't really help with oil control...i hope your doc can give you something that will help. g/l http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm sorry to hear about your skin Rachelhttp://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. I too was on Accutane and once I went off of it my skin started freaking out again. I chose not to do another round and had my doc give me a prescription for Differin Gel and Cleocin-T Lotion, which is a great medicated moisturizer. At the time I was also on BCP's (mircette) which I believe helped a lot also. Since I'm preggo I had to stop the pills, but I continued to use the other things and my skin is doing very well. I found out after much trial and error that my main issue with my skin was due to the moisturizers I tried. There isn't one that I have tried that didn't cause breakouts. So using the Cleocin-T lotion alone helps dramatically. I guess the point of accutane is to keep your acne at bay in hopes that when you are done with your course, you're through with your acne stage. But there are many people who continue to get acne afterwards, which really stinks. Have you tried any topicals before besides your Pro-Activ? In my experiences (after trying Retin-A, Retin-A Micro) Differin works the best and causes virtually no irritation once your skin is used to it. Well keep us updated on whatever you decide to do, and keep your head up because reguardless of your skin you're beautiful Ray http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
