View Full Version : Garnier Surf Hair help/question
Well I'm a newby when it comes to hair and about a month ago I had really fine hair which i couldnt do anything with. I hated it, so I did some research and it seemed everyone was raving bout this stuff called Surf Hair by Garnier Fructis.
So I go out and buy it and wow, my whole life changes. Everyone starts complimenting on my hair and how good i look. I know nothing bout hair care so i didnt really wash it often and when I did it was head and shoulders (mom uses it).
Anyways after a couple days at the beach (how ironic) of having my hair go through hell i guess u could say (didnt wash my hair for 2 days so basically had salty water hair for a while), i noticed the day after my hair lookin pretty thin in the front almost baldish but still u can barely tell.
Horrified i may be going bald by the product or by not washing my hair enough i went out and bought Garnier volume shampoo and conditioner. I'm 21 years old so I doubt im going bald. Hopefully just some hair fell out cause of that crazy time at the beach but I'm unsure.
Finally my question. In my situation do you think I should be washing and conditioning my hair everyday to minimize the possible damage im causing by wearing "surf hair" all the time?
I overreact alot so thats probably all thats going on now but who knows. Any help or insight would be great. Thanks.

i'm not sure if you should be washing your hair everyday but definitely get a good clarifying shampoo to clean all the product out of your hair once in a while...maybe 1x or 2x a week depending on how much product you use...i don't recommend using the clarifying shampoo everyday since it might really strip and dry out your hair....by the way what is surf hair?? what does it do?? sounds interesting...also overreacting and stressing constantly probably does contribute to some amount..hth

Hi John! Welcome to the boards! Well, I'm guessing you're new because I haven't seen you post before. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Anyway, on to you Surf Hair question. I use it too and I don't really notice any damage to my hair. I think it might have just been the time at the beach and leaving the salty water in. If you feel like your hair is in really bad shape though, you could do a conditioning treatment (take a heavy conditioner and leave it in your hair for 10 minutes or so, then rinse it out. I also agree w/ marooncream's suggestion of using a clarifying shampoo (Neutrogena makes a good one), but only use it once a week.
Marooncream- Surf Hair is a texturizing paste that is supposed to give your hair a "beachy" look. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I honestly don't think using a pomade would really thin out your hair. The only thing I see possible is if you apply too much, thereby making your hair look stringy. Remember to use sparingly!
That said, I love the whole Garnier Fructis line, and I heard their volumizing stuff is great. Or, would you consider trying a thickening shampoo made just for men? I'm pretty sure L'oreal Vive has a men's line.
By the way, age doesn't matter when it comes to balding-my dad was almost completely bald by 23!
Anyways, I hope your hair gets back to normal so you can still use the Surf stuff, I use it every day!
