I went to see a dentist a few weeks ago to get my teeth cleaned and x-rayed. I told the gal who was cleaning my teeth that my gums hurt by my upper left molar. She said she thought it was because I have sensitive teeth and that food gets trapped there. Well, my teeth have recently become very very sensitive that it's difficult to eat things anymore, and the Sensodyne toothpaste I am using isn't really helping at all. My teeth hurt like a mother! http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Anyway, my gums do not bleed when I floss, but in that corner is the only place it hurts so bad to floss at. Flossing makes it hurt even worse and for hours and hours. I know there's something else wrong, but what? It's not getting any better. I don't have any cavities apparently, so why am I in such pain??? http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif My gum in that area feels a bit swollen.

What else helps with sensitive teeth problems? I've never really had this problem before, but it's very bad now. I guess I've brushed my teeth too hard which has made them ultra sensitive. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Any advice? http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I would go back to the dentist. Hope you feel better soon!

I would go back too. I had that problem once and was told that sometimes food gets jammed in there so I had to go back and get a deep cleaning.

Hopw you feel better!

I'm having the same sort of problem. I've asked around and people have told me that it is probably an exposed root and they can do a filling to help it. I was also told that it can lead to other problems if not fixed.

I would recommend the Sonicare toothbrush. Call your dentist and if he does nothing, see someone else. A periodontist might be the next person to see if you don't need a referral. I'm planning to call one this week and see if he will see me without a referral.

I have sensitive teeth too.

You may have an exposed nerve. Go back to the dentist or go to a new dentist who will listen to your concerns.

I have a similar problem with my gums around just one of my teeth. My dentist checked it out and said I have gum disease...all she rec'd for me is to use Sensodyne and to keep using it because it starts working after weeks of use...right now I have other problems I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed so I look like a chipmunk.

Forgot to mention that I've used Sensodyne for years. I think it helps on teeth that are mildly sensitive but not on big problems.

Suzette, usually for gum disease, they tell you to use Listerine to kill germs. I had a hygienist who had worked for a periodontist. She told me to put Listerine on my brush and gently go around the gum. Seemed to be good advice.
