I'm specifically thinking of all the eyeshadows I have that are dull dull dull to me now. I was thinking of mixing them with petroleum jelly Aquaphor or something to make eye glosses. Anybody get a better idea what to do with them?

I also have some cheapie lipsticks that are dry and waxy. Do you think they could be mixed with petroleum jelly to make glosses? Wouldn't I have to heat the mixure up to get it mix well?

Any ideas appreciated!

for eyeshadows, if they're dark enough, I use it as cake liners

As for cheapie lipsticks that are dry and waxy, I just toss away http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif. My lips deserve better than that!

I like mixing loose shadows with a bit of Smith's Rosebud Salve to make eye glosses.

Some of my eyeshadow shades can be doubled as blushes or highlighters so I'll use them like that.

Unless I really really like the color I usually toss waxy dry lipsticks b/c even when I mix them with something else I still don't end up using them much.

Whenever I buy/receive a lipstick in a tube, I immediately smash it into a little pot container with a cap. I must have like 30+ of them.
-I'll mix them with foundation to make a cream blush. Dream Matte mousse with a little bit of the lipstick mixed in. It's a great light mousse blush.

-I bring a palette around start mixing colors for new glosses. Sometimes I'll melt them in a double boiler on the stove to. Mix them with vitamin E, Aquaphor, or some Vaseline.

If I get a sucky eyeshadow with no pigment, it's gone.
Now that I think about it. I throw away or give away a lot of my makeup that I don't like.

Try crushing some of the e/s into loose pigments which you can use/mix to make a new lip gloss, shadow, nail polish shade, etc.

I wish I was better about using things I don't like, but if I don't like it, I toss it, swap it, or give it away. I'm just not patient enough to use up something I don't like.

I’ll use an eyeshadow that is too warm on my cheeks as a blush. If fact all of my blushes are eyeshadows. Then I will try to use up an eyeshadow that is too light as a highlighter just at the tops of my cheeks at the outer edges. Even greens and blues are great to use up that way especially when paired with similar colors on your eyes. I love a little flash of color on the tops of cheeks that are not the traditional rosy blush color.

If the eyeshadows are dull why not just top them with shimmer?

I would think that you could melt old lipsticks with Vaseline to make a gloss.

I like to ground up e/s and use them as multi purpose powders (my e/s tend to be neutrally colored, so this works).

I used to try to come up with ways to use things up, but now I just give them away or toss them http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

I almost always like to use products where they were meant for.

If I don't like the product I gave it away (if it is in good condition) or throw it away.

I don't know if I'm really creative with using products for other things there were meant for:

I sometimes use eyeshadow as eyeliner with a wet MAC 210 eyeliner brush.

And I tried:

using Smiths rosebud lipbalm on my eyelids for a glossy look (but I don't think I liked the look?)

using old sunscreen for the face as body sunscreen (which is probably not a good idea)

using shampoo or bodywash as brushcleanser (before I discovered MAC's brushcleanser)

using creamblush and gelblush as a liptint (last thing worked with Clinique's gelblush)

using concealer and foundationsamples as an eyeshadowbase (for example: YSL touch eclat, Clarins eclat minute, Dior skinflash concealer)

since the lipsticks you have are dry and waxy I personally would throw them away. Maybe you could give the eyeshadows away that are dull to you now?? But if you want to use them up, the other icompacters gave great recs.

You can melt the dry and waxy lipsticks, and stir in melted petroleum jelly, or even better Vitamin E oil (from the capsules), olive oil, grapeseed oil, etc. to make them more moist. Different lipstick colours can even be blended at the same time to create new colours. You can store these creations in a palette or small sample jar.

I make my own lipbalm, and lipstick scraps are a great way to tint them. You can also add gloss or vaseline directly to the lipstick with a lip brush to make a coloured lipgloss. (mix up one application at a time)

Same here http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I found that when I used to make "new" products from old ones I didn't like or use anymore, they just sat around (and made a big mess during the process of creating them) http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
