Confused about coloring!!

Hey!I am having a haircolor dilemna. I have been coloring my hair blonde for four years and about six months ago i decided to color it dark brown. Now i have decided that i want to go to my favorite color which is dark blonde. So i went to a salon and had them remove as much of the dark as they could but i had so many different colors they could not remove all the brown. So they removed the darkest colors and then highlighted my hair. SO my hair is now a light/medium brown with blonde highlights. It's been about one month since then and the highlights on the outter part of my hair are really light,whereas the highlights under my hair are much lighter....i want to just even out my hair color and have it be dark blonde. i wanted to know how i can achieve my dark blonde color? Can I use a box color so i don't have to spend a lot of money at a salon?? Thanks!
