New study (http://www.cosmeticsdesign-europe.com/news/ng.asp?n=60323&m=2CDE603&c=bcwagzfcckaqtbu)

I found it interesting that they actually used human subjects for this study, I think a lot of comodogencity tests are done with rabbit ears.

Well I know that mineral oil doesn't break me out..it just makes me feel oily. I just don't really like the feel of it which is why i don't use it.

Hmmmm…. Very interesting! I have been a little worried about mineral oil but I guess I don’t have to be.

I feel the same way as Christi - mineral oil does not make me break out, but it does make me super greasy. Yuck!! I choose not to use it, but it might make some people feel better about using it if they knew it was non-comodegenic.

I'm using WnW's TM right now, and one of the ingredients in mineral oil (I think it's like 3rd or 4th on the ingredient list)and it has not caused me any problems at all, so I think this study is very true. I have also had a lot of success with Nivea Cream on my face as a moisturizer in the winter and that has a good amount of mineral oil in it as well and I never got breakouts from it, if anything it seemed to help clear me up.

So I don't see mineral oil anymore and freak out like I used to. There still have been body products I have used such as lotions or creams that contain mineral oils and I have accidently gotten them on my face from putting them on at night and end up sleeping with my face touching my arm or something where I have put it and I have erupted in breakouts from it. Maybe it was another ingredient causing it..or maybe there are different grades of mineral oil and some are okay for the face and others aren't? Dunno.

Paula has said for years that mineral oil is non comedogenic. It's not really new information. I guess now that it's made the mainstream news most will actually listen.

Mineral oil.

Clear, odorless oil derived from petroleum that is widely used in cosmetics because it rarely causes allergic reactions and can't become a solid and clog pores. Despite mineral oil's association with petroleum and the hype that it is bad for skin, keep in mind that petroleum is a natural ingredient derived from the earth and that once it becomes mineral oil, it has no resemblance to the original petroleum. Cosmetics-grade mineral oil and petrolatum are considered the safest, most nonirritating moisturizing ingredients ever found (Sources: Cosmetics & Toiletries, January 2001, page 79; and Cosmetic Dermatology, September 2000, pages 44–46). Yes, they can keep air off the skin to some extent, but that's what a good antioxidant is supposed to do; they don't suffocate skin! Moreover, mineral oil and petrolatum are known to be efficacious in wound healing, and are also considered to be among the most effective moisturizing ingredients available (Source: Cosmetics & Toiletries, February 1998, pages 33–40). See Paula's article Mineral Oil.
