View Full Version : Went for My Yearly Exam, Gyno Found Something

Ok, I went in to get my checkup with the gynecologist last week and everything was checking out normally - no breast lumps, doctor said my cervix looked fine. But then she started doing the pelvic, and I noticed it was taking her longer than normal. She kind of went, "Hmm... I feel something." She told me it could just be a "bowel loop," but that she wanted me to come back for an ultrasound. Unfortunately we couldn't get any more in depth about what it could possibly be since her pager went off (one of her patients went into labor - pretty good excuse to duck out of an appointment http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ). I have the ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday, and the doctor will be the one doing it. Of course until then, my mind is going through a laundry list of possibilities of what could be up. What kinds of things are detected in pelvics? How the heck do you bowels get untwisted and form loops elsewhere? What other possibilities could it be?

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and might be able to offer any advice. Thanks!http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can't relate to your exact dilemma, but I went to my gyno about a yr ago and she found something on my cervix. She did a swab with some special solution and she said she thought it was a cervical cyst. She wanted to schedule a biopsy and an ultrasound and all that good stuff http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I scheduled it, and she didn't see anything!!! She's been doing cervix checks on me every 3 months and so far nothing has shown up again. Anywho, my point was sometimes these things take care of themselves. Hopefully yours will too. Just hang in there and think positive thoughts!

Haven't heard of that, but it sounds like a lesser evil than an abnormal pap or breast lump. Hope all goes well at your u/s. Please keep us posted! Good vibes!

I've never had a gyno appt. I'm not sexually active yet so I don't see the point. Yet, I know I'm 19 and I should.
I've had my boobs examined. They're so small so it takes a few seconds. I have a problem with my pelvic area. This little bump thing around where my ovaries would be. I've felt it for years. I can remember the exact year. 1999. Whenever I go running I get a little stitch feeling there. No pain, just...a feeling.

Not trying to preach or anything but there is a point in going to the gyno...they're not just there to catch STDs you might get from being sexually active. Since you're over 18, you should go in for a pap smear. It's really not that scary. I know you know, I'm just getting on the soapbox a little http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Luthien- I hope it turns out to be nothing! My mom has had some little polyps that were like that and were nothing but little lumps that weren't dangerous...things like that happen sometimes!

I hope it just turns out to be something simple, too. Probably just a gas bubble or something!http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Rayray, it's a good idea to just go to the gyno to have a general checkup, even if you're not having sex. I've known some young people who've had uterine cancer (the girl I knew was about 20 when they found it, she's fine now) and ovarian cancer (that girl was 27 when they found it). So although it's rare, these things can happen - so it's a good idea to get it all checked out.http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah rayray, not to scare you, but I have known girls your age and younger that have had cervical cancer! A pap smear is painless and an exam takes all of five minutes. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I hope things will be okay, Mercedes! Please keep us updated.

And Rachel - like the other girls have said, going to the gyno even if you're not sexually active is a good thing! I've been going since I was 15 (for period problems), and I promise you, it's really not that bad.

Luthien I hope everything is okay, please keep us updated. Rachel, I am in my 30's and my first pap smear was just a few years ago. I am still a virgin and thought I didn't need one but I agree it is important to have one every year to check for cancers etc. It really isn't scary. I had a female doctor give me a pap smear since I didn't feel comfortable with my male doctor doing it. He totally understood and it was easier for me.

I hope everything turned out okay, Luthien http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I've been going to one since I was 14 (for a sexual assault that year, then just to be safe ever since). I always bug my mom and aunts to go to theirs, too. It's not too bad and I always have had a woman doctor which makes me comfortable.

Ok, I have an update. I went in for my ultrasound yesterday and everything checked out fine! The technician said my ovaries and uterus and all that fun stuff looked great. Apparently (and I hope this doesn't gross anyone out too much), the tech said what my gyno might have detected was stool in my intestines that I hadn't gotten rid of yet. *ahem* I looked at my husband very seriously after the exam and said, "There ya have it, sweetie. It's been medically proven that I'm full of poop!"

But, long story short it's a great relief and I'm happy everything's ok.http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
