Motivation!!

Hi all, what do you do to motivate yourself to work out? I can't seem to get off of my behind and even take a walk! I give myself excuse after excuse. I used to love to exercise. Let me know what works for you, any ideas would be great!

Hi Lisa,

I feel your pain. I work full-time M-F and my husband also works and has an hour commute each day. By the time we get home, have dinner, clean up and do whatever else we need to do around the house, it feels like the night is already over so having the motivation to go to the gym at that point is difficult. We recently got a puppy, so walking him every night helps us to get a little bit of exercise in. We try to get ourselves to the gym at least one weeknight and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday when we aren't pressed for time. Next month I am going to order some pilates dvds so I can work out at home, too. I'd say that varying the activity is what gives me motivation. That way I don't get bored.

For me, I just feel better when I workout! It's hard to get going, but once I do, I never regret it. Taking baby steps is key too - on days when I really really don't want to do anything, I just do some yoga or something. Even 15/20 min is better than 0
I also love how my body looks when I more toned, so most of the pics i have in my room are of me and my friends during times when I was super toned. Sounds weird, but they remind me of how awesome I look when I take care of myself

I finally just gave up on the gym several times a week, by the time I got ready, drove over there, found parking etc., it just too too much time out of my day. I just take 20 minutes and do a circuit DVD (30 day Shred/Jillian Michaels)...I tell myself there isn't any excuse to not put on some comfortable clothes and move around my living room for 20 minutes! I've actually got more results with this routine than I ever have with anything I've done at the gym. On off days I do something lowkey like kitkat.

I make myself get up early to exercise. I feel great the rest of the day, and after a long day at work I don't have to think about it. I use the 30 Day Shred DVD as well as running. Even if I have to wake up an hour early, it's worth it. You can even split a workout up- 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening.

Becky makes a good point about breaking it up - when you break 45 min into 2 segments, it seems like nothing!

I keep in mind how much better I feel and more productive I am when I work out. I get up very early to workout as well, and getting that in before work really set the tone for my day. I'm more alert, relaxed and feel stronger... basically ready to begin my day. I also break up my workouts. I usually do cardio after work or during a break at work (ha!). Getting in cardio after a stressful day does wonders for me mentally, as well as physically.
