I got rid of my credit cards too... my husband's have a much higher limit and he gets points for using his card!

Sounds like a better idea! I need to get rid of mine. The interest rate is too high, plus we just want to get it paid off anyway. When we get another, we probably won't use it much anyway unless we paid it off each month, but they're nice to have in case of an emergency. We just don't want any debt!

I forgot about credit cards! We each kept our own, but we don't carry a balance on them anyhow. We feel like they're more secure than debit cards, but we use them as you would a check card.

We don't want debt either! We use the credit card for everything to get the points, then my husband pays it off every month and we make sure not to go over our budget with it. It works well for us!

We keep our finances separate - checking accounts and credit cards.
Katie Lynn, we do the same thing and use our credit cards and debit cards and pay off the balance every month. We've been mindful over the years to keep out debt to a minimum and make sure the debt we do have is the "good" kind of debt.

Erica, I'd think about just paying off your card and keeping it, as opposed to closing the account/getting rid of the card. Closing accounts can actually harm your credit score.

I have to say, I am kind of envious of those of you who have been able to set up a budget. I am paid hourly and the hours that I work vary from week-to-week, so I have no idea how to set up a budget since I'm never sure what I'll be getting paid! If anyone has any ideas, PLMK.

When I was married we had 4 accounts total, a joint chequing account, a joint savings accounts and we each had our own separate savings account.
